EVALUATING THE POTENTIAL OF 3D PRINTING TECHNOLOGY IN MANUFACTURING USING FORESIGHT TECHNIQUES

Bildiri Özeti: 3D printing technology has been argued extensively in academia and in business world for its potential advantages in many areas, such as integrity, cost and speed. It is perceived as a disruptive innovation in many areas that can revolutionize existing systems. The aim of this study is to examine the maturity of 3D printing technology in manufacturing systems with patent analysis. Patents represent the scientific knowledge that has been already commercialized, or is ready to be commercialized. Derwent Innovation Database is used in order to extract the related patent data. 6407 patents were analyzed and the historical diffusion of 3D printing technology via CPC codes is demonstrated. Using Network Analysis, with the comparison of the historical evolution andcurrent framework, the prominent areas in which 3D printing is used were detected.
